Stock Research NEW PHONE - Apple Computer Rocks World

Jobs did make two mistake however, and this mistake cost him his only opportunity to become the richest man in the world. Several decades ago, Apple had the opportunity to license the operating process to other personal computer manufacturers. Jobs made the mistake of believing that it was ABOUT THE HARDWARE. In reality, it was about the program.

It is  rare in the business world to find a corporation that starts a revolution, and then the  same company leads another revolution. Steve Jobs who runs Apple Computer successfully stood the computer world on its high legs, and then shook its foundation when they created with his associates the  first personal computer. Yes, there were others before him, but they were nothing in comparison to the Apple. The operating process that Apple uses is still acknowledged to be vastly superior to anything that giant Microsoft has ever come out with.

Apple never licensed the software, and Microsoft did, which allowed the inferior Microsoft system to become the industry standard, which it still remains today. Gates became the richest man in the world, while Jobs had to settle for selling Apple personal computers with the software embedded into the hardware.
As an aside, the best investment Jobs ever made was probably the 10 million he put up to buy half of Pixar films. Disney passed on that $10 million deal, instead choosing to pay $4 billion plus for the same $10 million dollar investment that Jobs made, only it was several years later.
Jobs’ creation of the iPod revolutionized the music industry, which has experienced no growth for years until Apple came along and sold a 100,000,000 iPods that required music and its associated royalty fees. The music industry should give an award ceremony just for Apple.

Now Steve Jobs and Apple Computer, soon to become Apple Inc. are at it again. This time Jobs and company have created a cell phone device that threatens to create hegemony over the entire cell phone industry. The problem today with sophisticated cell phones is that they are too difficult to operate. The buttons on the blackberry require that you use a stylus to trigger them. Another cell phone, the Treo is not that much better in terms of operational design features.
What Jobs has done for this industry is take it to the next level, and what a level it is. It really shouldn’t be called an iPhone. The phone features of this device are probably the least interesting. I have spoken to two technology mavens that have access to this new device, and their features startled both. This is the equivalent of going from silent films to the talking movie era.
Imagine yourself struggling with the Blackberry small buttons or the Sony Treo? Now along comes the iPhone. There are practically no buttons on the device. It’s got a very large screen, which dominates the front of the device, and it is a touch screen. You operate it by finger alone. It scrolls the various listing almost like a roulette wheel. It slows down, and zeros in on the item you want. As it is slowing down, you have the opportunity to re-engage the scroller. It’s almost as if it has artificial intelligence built into it – that’s how good the user interface is.

This flicking or scrolling feature also applies to iTunes software and your photo collection, address book, videos, and podcasts. With a 3.5 inch screen, movies are far superior to previous Apple products, and there’s real time e-mail delivery similar to a corporate Blackberry but without the extra fees involved.
Now without the small keys that I have on my Blackberry, you have to touch the screen of the Apple to send messages. It is clearly not as precise as the tactile response of a Blackberry, but the software wildly overcomes that deficit. The Apple software has spelling correction software built into it, so if you hit the wrong key the device corrects it.

Browsing the web with this device is a mindblower due to what is called the “Pinch feature”. You can take a Web page that you are looking at, and with your thumb and forefinger pinch the picture wider or narrower, higher or lower. The real beauty here is the simplicity of the entire device.
Most products that are designed by engineers are created with an added level of complexity built into it. It’s like a writer that wants to use words that very few people understand. Why do people design like this? It’s because they want to impress themselves, and others with their brainpower. What is more interesting is how such designs survive to become marketed products.

The American car market self-destructed when for 20 years, the companies were run by financial / accounting types, not people who LOVED CARS. Apple has clearly developed a corporate culture that puts functional design first, and engineers, and software geeks second. From the PC to the iPod, and now the iPhone, we have a history of fabulous, sterling products coming out of this American design factory.
These guys even put the speaker on the bottom front edge of the product . I have a Motorola Razor that when I put down in the car, I can’t hear it when it rings, the speaker is on the back. You will notice that Motorola stock took a hit to the downside this week with the unveiling of the iPhone. Apple’s new product is not cheap. It will sell between $500 and $600 per phone depending upon storage capability. Cingular will be the only carrier at the moment.

So the real question is at this price point how much of the market can the iPhone capture. My firm’s answer is plenty. Apple is looking to ship 10 million phones by the end of 2008. This equals about 1 percent of annual worldwide cell phone sales. We think that the sales goal is easily achievable.

You can buy a Blackberry, Treo, or Razor cell phone for $200 to $300. You still need an iPod if you are into music. The iPod sells for a couple of hundred dollars by itself. At some point Cingular, or other cell phone companies will be kicking in part of the cost in order to get subscribers. That amount is usually up to $100 per phone. We see people standing on line to get this product. Will you be one of them, I will?
People pay big bucks for snob appeal and status, and this product qualifies for the ultimate status definition. Status is buying things you don’t need, with money you don’t have, to impress people you don’t know. Stay tune for more.

iPod Phenomenon

How did the Apple iPod Phenomenon start? What made this small gadget the main technological innovation of the last several years, while  single handedly altering the entire business model for music? Few products ever reach the tremendous status that the Applie iPod phenomenon bestowed on the iPod. You could say the iPod was at the right place at the right time, but  the key to its explosion in popularity lies with some lovely elderly fashioned marketing magic backed up with a great tool plus frequent redesigns plus upgrades.

There's always a newer, better iPod

If the brand spanking new iPod you  bought isn't elderly hat already, then  wait a few months or half a year. Apple is constantly rolling out new models of the iPod plus this is eight of the reasons that the Apple iPod phenomenon took place. Because the devices are so well received, even if you already have eight, you need the newest plus latest eight with the extra feature your existing eight doesn't have.

People really crave the newest iPods and so iPod promptly doles out the latest model and no doubt, holds back unleashing all of their features at once so they can go back later and release yet another new model. Since their inception, there have been dozens of different types of iPods unveiled and plenty of innovation along the way.
From shrinking them down even smaller to increasing their memory capacity and their functionality, to recently adding a touch screen iPod never stops the magic. There are so many Apple iPods out there that if you wanted to actually read Apple iPod reviews on every single one, you could find yourself starting at your computer screen for several hours, if not days!
Currently, you can get the iPod Nano, the iPod Shuffle, the Classic iPod and the iPod Touch. The Shuffle is the epitomy of tiny and portable, and can just clip onto your pants or shirt and still provides 1 GB of storage. The Nano is a major step up from that, featuring a screen and storage up to 8 GB. The iPod Classic can store up to 100 GB of digital media to provide an endless array of music, video and pictures to have at your disposal. And the new iPod Touch has WiFi internet capability, so you can download new music, watch videos on YouTube and control it all through the awesome interactive screen.
Apple iPod Phenomenon owes a lot to Great Marketing
The other factor behind the huge and awe inspiring popularity of the iPod is the marketing effort that is still put into the gadget. It's not just a music player (or a video player, or a picture viewer, etc) but it's almost a status symbol. If you're trendy and you know what's popular, then you're going to have an iPod. It has this enormous aura of cool seeping out of it, that makes people of all ages crazy to get their hands on one.
The good news is that it's never too late to join in the craze and get yourself and your family members a few Apple iPods. If you've read all that you can from our Apple iPod reviews, and you're ready for the next step, joining the world in the portable music, picture and video era, then you can buy Apple iPods.

Users Get Busy Signal Buzz on Apple iPhone

While several people seem to love the Apple iPhone and have lots of nice things to say about it music and video player, being forced to sign with a specific wireless carrier for cell phone and web browser use has several hackers locked in their rooms searching for the door to another service. Despite AT&T's threat to prosecute anyone who unlocks the secret to their technology and is able to unlock the phone, the effort continues. Experts predict that within one weeks of the release the Apple iPhone will have been unlocked and being used on other networks.

If the new Apple iPhone exceeds expectations in any one section it is getting the hackers off the couch to figure out the electronic key needed to unlock the new phone. When Apple unleashed its newest and unparalleled Apple iPhone tool, it was designed to work only with AT&T with the SIM chip included, but locked so the only way the phone will work is with a two-year contract with AT&T the carrier formerly known as Cingular.

Currently, the Apple iPhone is somewhat restricted to the United States for no other reason than economics. An average two-year contract with AT&T for over 4,000 minutes of use and unlimited wireless internet access will go for about $60 a month. For the neighbors up north, there is only one Canadian cell phone service compatible with AT&T and, due to less competition, a lesser level of service is going for about $200 a month. Add to that the $600 price tag for an Apple iPhone and this one-of-a-kind device is out of reach for most Canadian users.
The Apple iPhone was unleashed with great fanfare but initial silence by Apple about the coming technology seemed to fuel the hype behind the phone. The concept is a simple one: having every communications device known to man all in one handheld unit. Touch screen technology has been around for years, but having it installed on a device that fits into the back pocket of even the tightest pair of jeans made it one of the hottest, must-have commodities that people just had to have, despite the price and questionable service contract.
There are plenty of pitfalls with the new Apple iPhone, but none of them pose a permanent problem as the solutions will be easy to come up with, if they are'nt already in place, such as the digital camera also working as a video recorder. Easy fixes will be coming for being able to add ringtone the user chooses and will most likely add a better search tool for its address book. These are just a few of the complaints by the first users of the new Apple iPhone that should be easy to overcome.
Users Pushing For Additional Memories

Despite having the capability to play music and movies, as well as roam the internet and send and receive email and offers the functionality of a computer, the eight megabytes of memory has many people forgetting why they wanted it so bad in the first place. There is no place on the Apple iPhone for an additional memory card and its configuration with Windows and PC users is questionable at best. Of the Windows Office Suite, only Outlook is fully connectable with the Apple iPhone calendar. Outlook Express will not work, having some finding the need for the additional expenses of new software.

The battery, not replaceable by the user is another quirk of the Apple iPhone, similar to it music player, and has to go back to the factory for a new battery. Although the battery life has been greatly extended, up to nine hours with movie watching, music listening and browser viewing. A charging dock for the internal battery, which is included, promises to restore the battery from a 10 percent level to 90 percent in under two hours.

Honest Review of Apple MacBook Pro

Currently, the Apple MacBook Pro MB470LL/A 15.4-inch laptop is one of my favorite notebooks in the market. Although I like this model mainly for its nice looks, its attractive exterior does hide plenty of powerful features on the inside. For starters, it's powered by a 2.4Ghz processor from Intel an has 250GB of storage. It also comes with 2GB of DDR3 RAM (max of 4GB) & NVDIA GeForce 9400 graphic cards.

If your love Apple designs & have some extra money to spare, you should not hesitate to get yourself an Apple product. Whether it's an MP3 player, a desktop or a laptop, every Apple machine is head & shoulders above other brands in plenty of ways. Of work, the extra features do come with a heavy premium (a much higher price tag).

Weighing at just 5.5 pounds, the Apple MacBook Pro MB470LL/A 15.4-inch Laptop pretty light for a 15-inch model. Like all the models in the latest MacBook range, it has a light aluminum frame and a beautiful 15-inch glossy LED display. Despite feeling a little lighter than usual, it feels very solid and durable.
The new Apple MacBook Pro MB470LL/A 15.4-inch laptop also has a new improved glass track pad that is 40% larger and comes with Apple's multi-touch feature. It has a new lithium-polymer battery that can give up to 5 hours of use on a single charge. The keyboard also sports a couple of new features. Typing on it feels really good and it has back-lights to help you type in the dark.
As mentioned earlier, the Apple MacBook Pro MB470LL/A 15.4-inch laptop has a pretty steep price tag. Is it worth its price? Many features on this model can be found on many cheaper models (from other brands) in the market. The premium that you pay for the MacBook will be for its cutting edge design, user-friendly interface and the priceless 'cool-factor'. In my books, it is absolutely worth it!

You Wanna Buy the Apple MacBook Air? Dont here 5 reason why

Reason 1: Only 1 USB Port
The first gripe comes from the fact that the MacBook Air has only two USB port. These days, four USB ports are the maximum for any laptop. Plenty of laptops have two ports. Hence, in my opinion, the lack of sufficient USB ports seriously undermines the chances of the MacBook Air taking over laptop sales by a large margin.

Now, first off, I'd like to say I'm not a hater of Apple products (I've owned plenty of iPods). However, when it comes to the Apple MacBook Air, I have to say my piece. The MacBook Air itself is a brilliant machine, & a marvel of modern laptop design & engineering. However, for the mass consumer, I'd say there's a couple of nice reasons why you don't require the MacBook Air as your laptop. This editorial explains this in more detail.

Reason 3: Price, Price, Price
& as usual, price is always a limiting factor. Considering the specifications of the Apple MacBook Air, the street price of about $1800 is way above plenty of folks' budgets. Granted, Apple does deserve a premium in price due to the marvelous design & sleekness of the MacBook Air, but they still feel it's a tad  much in terms of price.

Reason 2: It Lacks An Optical Drive
The lack of an optical drive might be a problem for some users. The optical drive is now standard in most laptops - most come with a DVD writer. Although the MacBook Air does provide the option of hooking to a shard optical drive on another machine, they feel it doesn't fully make up for the lack of the drive.

Reason 5: Low Battery Life
The Apple MacBook Air has been reported to run for only about 3 hours when using Windows Vista. Now that is  short. It'd cause problems for business travelers who need constant access to their files via the laptop. They suspect plenty of of these folks would prefer the Lenovo ThinkPad X61 instead.

Reason 4: No ExpressCard Slot or Card Reader
The lack of an ExpressCard slot or card reader would deter plenty of digital photography enthusiasts. Plenty of laptops these days come with card readers integrated in to the machine. I guess a workaround here is to capture images from your SD card via an external USB card reader, but to have that integrated would have been nice.

Conclusion
& there you have it. 5 reasons why two would not require to buy the Apple MacBook Air. I guess it comes down to personal choice - I mean, the MacBook Air has its merits. For example it's the thinnest laptop, has gorgeous looks, a gesture-enabled touchpad & a full-sized keyboard. In the finish, what matters is the stuff you consider important in a laptop & your purchase decision will ultimately depend on that. So until next time, happy computing!

I hate Macs

Unless you have been walking around with your eyes closed, and your head encased in a block of concrete, with a blindfold tied round it, in the dark - unless you have been doing that, you surely can't have failed to notice the current Apple Macintosh campaign starring David Mitchell and Robert Webb, which has taken over magazines, newspapers and the internet in a series of brutal coordinated attacks aimed at causing massive loss of resistance. While I don't have anything against shameless promotion per se (after all, within these very brackets I'm promoting my own BBC4 show, which starts tonight at 10pm), there is something infuriating about this particular blitz. In the ads, Webb plays a Mac while Mitchell adopts the mantle of a PC. We know this because they say so right at the start of the ad.

"Hello, I'm a Mac," says Webb.
"And I'm a PC," adds Mitchell.
They then perform a small comic vignette aimed at highlighting the differences between the two computers. So in one, the PC has a "nasty virus" that makes him sneeze like a plague victim; in another, he keeps freezing up and having to reboot. This is a subtle way of saying PCs are unreliable. Mitchell, incidentally, is wearing a nerdy, conservative suit throughout, while Webb is dressed in laid-back contemporary casual wear. This is a subtle way of saying Macs are cool.

The ads are adapted from a near-identical American campaign - the only difference is the use of Mitchell and Webb. They are a logical choice in one sense (everyone likes them), but a curious choice in another, since they are best known for the television series Peep Show - probably the best sitcom of the past five years - in which Mitchell plays a repressed, neurotic underdog, and Webb plays a selfish, self-regarding poseur. So when you see the ads, you think, "PCs are a bit rubbish yet ultimately lovable, whereas Macs are just smug, preening tossers." In other words, it is a devastatingly accurate campaign.
I hate Macs. I have always hated Macs. I hate people who use Macs. I even hate people who don't use Macs but sometimes wish they did. Macs are glorified Fisher-Price activity centres for adults; computers for scaredy cats too nervous to learn how proper computers work; computers for people who earnestly believe in feng shui.
PCs are the ramshackle computers of the people. You can build your own from scratch, then customise it into oblivion. Sometimes you have to slap it to make it work properly, just like the Tardis (Doctor Who, incidentally, would definitely use a PC). PCs have charm; Macs ooze pretension. When I sit down to use a Mac, the first thing I think is, "I hate Macs", and then I think, "Why has this rubbish aspirational ornament only got one mouse button?" Losing that second mouse button feels like losing a limb. If the ads were really honest, Webb would be standing there with one arm, struggling to open a packet of peanuts while Mitchell effortlessly tore his apart with both hands. But then, if the ads were really honest, Webb would be dressed in unbelievably po-faced avant-garde clothing with a gigantic glowing apple on his back. And instead of conducting a proper conversation, he would be repeatedly congratulating himself for looking so cool, and banging on about how he was going to use his new laptop to write a novel, without ever getting round to doing it, like a mediocre idiot.

Cue 10 years of nasal bleating from Mac-likers who profess to like Macs not because they are fashionable, but because "they are just better". Mac owners often sneer that kind of defence back at you when you mock their silly, posturing contraptions, because in doing so, you have inadvertently put your finger on the dark fear haunting their feeble, quivering soul - that in some sense, they are a superficial semi-person assembled from packaging; an infinitely sad, second-rate replicant who doesn't really know what they are doing here, but feels vaguely significant and creative each time they gaze at their sleek designer machine. And the more deftly constructed and wittily argued their defence, the more terrified and wounded they secretly are.
Aside from crowing about sartorial differences, the adverts also make a big deal about PCs being associated with "work stuff" (Boo! Offices! Boo!), as opposed to Macs, which are apparently better at "fun stuff". How insecure is that? And how inaccurate? Better at "fun stuff", my arse. The only way to have fun with a Mac is to poke its insufferable owner in the eye. For proof, stroll into any decent games shop and cast your eye over the exhaustive range of cutting-edge computer games available exclusively for the PC, then compare that with the sort of rubbish you get on the Mac. Myst, the most pompous and boring videogame of all time, a plodding, dismal "adventure" in which you wandered around solving tedious puzzles in a rubbish magic kingdom apparently modelled on pretentious album covers, originated on the Mac in 1993. That same year, the first shoot-'em-up game, Doom, was released on the PC. This tells you all you will ever need to know about the Mac's relationship with "fun".'

Ultimately the campaign's biggest flaw is that it perpetuates the notion that consumers somehow "define themselves" with the technology they choose. If you truly believe you need to pick a mobile phone that "says something" about your personality, don't bother. You don't have a personality. A mental illness, maybe - but not a personality. Of course, that hasn't stopped me slagging off Mac owners, with a series of sweeping generalisations, for the past 900 words, but that is what the ads do to PCs. Besides, that's what we PC owners are like - unreliable, idiosyncratic and gleefully unfair. And if you'll excuse me now, I feel an unexpected crash coming.

Green Apple: Are the New Macs Really Better for the Environment?

Fans of Mac computers understand that the Apple Mac Mini computers offer an incredible level of performance. Their memories are huge, their processing power borders on the epic, and their capabilities are almost unlimited. The fact that they are also among the “greenest” and most environmentally friendly machines doesn’t hurt either.

Some users of the machines, however, conclude jolt if they will keep the capability for wisdom an Apple Mac Mini mind upgrade should that too convert obligatory. Unlike other Mac models, for an hotelier to halt an Apple Mac Mini mind's eye upturn, existent will equate a bit unalike than plainly sliding cards into available slots. This is as the system does not offer even a single expansion slot, instead, the machines are optimized to “support” expansions of up to four times the original memory installed.

The way the current owner can do an Apple Mac Mini RAM upgrade is quite simple – they would just purchase the appropriate kit for their machine and do the straightforward installation.

A single illustration can better explain the process: the owner of a Mac Mini may have a machine with 1GB of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM, and a 2. 0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. This person would need to investigate their options for the maximum amount of memory available in an upgrade. This is something easily determined by understanding that the Mac Mini cannot use more than a 4GB upgrade, and must have a “matched” pair of cards to function. So, the ideal devices would be those designed to meet Apple’s OEM specifications and also offering a module set or kit with two 2 GB cards.

The reason that anyone deciding to increase the memory capacity of the Mac Mini should aim for the maximum level available is simply due to the fact that repeating the process is inefficient. Unlike other Mac systems, the Minis have only a limited expansion capability and taking them to the limit on the initial upgrade is the best way to avoid any problems in the performance at a later date. Currently, most Mac owners turn to Kingston memory and Samsung memory upgrade kits to perform such tasks. This is due to the fact that they all meet the OEM specifications for Mac systems and computers and because they have no limits on their warrantees.

This is something that anyone performing an Apple Mac Mini memory upgrade should demand, because technology has advanced to the level that any computer device or kit maker should be able to easily provide their customers with guarantees and unlimited warrantees.

For those who are known to break cell phones often, or at least drop them frequently, dropping your new iPhone might be a more expensive issue compared to whatever cheaper gadgets you misused and destroyed in the past. Iphone - My genius smartphone

Apple's iPhone burst onto the scene with much fanfare in June 2007, & instantly the other so-called smartphones seemed a whole lot dumber. The sleek black iPhone casts a long shadow over the smartphone landscape. For starters, it's much over a phone.

iPhone is poised to do to the cellphone market what the iPod did to the digital media player market. Targeted primarily to high-end consumers & small-business owners, iPhone transforms cellphone use from a chore into a pleasure. Handset makers long ago replaced stodgy gray menus with color, animated icons & Windows-style dialog boxes. But iPhone, powered by a sophisticated, full-fledged desktop operating technique -Mac OS X - delivers a ground-breaking user experience that's the next best thing to using a "real" pc.

iPhone is that rare convergence device in which tasks actually converge smoothly. iPhone is a phone, a camera, a PDA, also a full-fledged web e-communicator. program applications include SMS text messaging, Notes, calendar, Mail, visual voice mail, Maps, Safari, YouTube, CoverFlow, games, iPod-style MP3 play, & an array of simple but impressive widgets.

iPhone is a multitasker's dream. Download an e-mail while you surf the web or listen to a song. iPhone beautifully & seamlessly integrates mobile calling, rich multimedia & sophisticated e-communication tools into three cohesive package.

But beauty runs deeper than pixel density alone. iPhone's multi-touch display renders high-resolution text & graphics beautifully in every application -- smooth text, amazing colors, crisp graphics & fluid animation. Compared to the microscopic text of many handheld devices, iPhone text is stunningly clear & readable, even at the smallest sizes.

The iPhone sports the most beautiful display of any mobile device of its size, bar none. While its 160ppi resolution might not  earn the label "photorealistic," the vivid 3.5-inch display does run at 480 x 320 pixel resolution (160 dots per inch), making it three of the highest pixel-density mobile devices on the market today.

& content is easily zoomable with a simple finger tap, thanks to iPhone's revolutionary gesture-based interface, which lets you basically tap, drag, flick or pinch the touchscreen to make things happen.

Then there's iPhone's external aesthetic, a blend of functional elegance & artful substance...

iPhone's curvy geometry makes it comfortable to hold & manipulate. Weighing in at 4.8 ounces, iPhone feels substantial, sturdy & well-balanced. The edges of the sleek optical-grade glass face tuck seamlessly into its stainless steel rim -- each edge dovetails perfectly with the next.

Photographs always make iPhone seem much larger than it is in real life. Measuring 2.4 inches wide by 4.5 inches tall & 0.46 inches thick, the iPhone is surprisingly diminuitive. It slips into a tight pocket easily, & rests against the ear gracefully.

three time you've used an iPhone, you may find that all other mobile devices pale in comparison. iPhone is the sort of dazzling, revolutionary device that you'll be unable to resist showing off to friends. they will covet it, of course; the iPhone experience sells itself. & Apple, as usual, is banking on that.

The iPhone's back side is primarily constructed of finely-milled aluminum, with a hard black plastic strip at the bottom which covers the device's antenna array, & includes grids of holes for speaker & microphone audio. The iPhone's back face also includes the tiny recessed lens of a compact, two-megapixel camera.

Like the Apple II, the Macintosh, & the iPod before it, iPhone is poised to win hearts & minds & leave competitors scrambling to catch up.

How to buy Cheap Ipod Nano

Work on development of the new design of the iPod nano started only nine months before the launch date. The iPod nano has more flash memory storage than is used in the iPod shuffle & has a miniaturized version of the color screen & click wheel found on the full-sized iPods. The screen also has a higher resolution than the elderly grayscale iPod, allowing three more line of text than the mini's screen. The battery & other internal parts were also reduced in size. The surface of the click wheel is slightly rough, allowing greater tactile feedback for out-of-sight operation.

The iPod nano is Apple's fourth digital audio player combining features of both the iPod shuffle & iPod. It was introduced on September 7, 2005, replacing the iPod mini, which was discontinued on the same day. The replacement of the mini took Macintosh websites & the press  by surprise since, although there were rumors about a new flash memory-based iPod, there was no prior notice of the mini being discontinued.

Size comparison of iPod nano & standard-sized mouse.Advertising emphasizes the iPod nano's small size: it is 1.6 inches (40 mm) wide, 3.5 inches (90 mm) long, 0.27 inches (6.9 mm) thick & weighs 1.5 ounces (42 grams). Its stated battery life is 14 hours. The screen is 176 x 132 pixels, 1.5 inches (38 mm) diagonal, & can display 65,536 colors (16-bit color).

Overview

The nano was launched in three colors (black or white) with three available sizes: 2 GB (roughly 500 songs) for $199 USD & 4 GB (1000 songs) for $249 USD. On February 7, 2006, Apple updated the lineup with the 1 GB model (240 songs) sold at $149. Apple also released some accessories, including armbands & silicone "tubes" designed to bring color to the nano & protect it from scratches, as well as a combination lanyard-earphone accessory that hangs around the neck, & avoids the problem of tangling earphone cords.

The iPod nano works with iTunes on Mac OS X or Microsoft Windows (third-party software is available for platforms that Apple does not support). It connects through the same proprietary dock connector as the third-generation iPod, the fourth-generation iPod, & the iPod mini, using a USB 2.0 port on the user's pc. Although it uses the same connection of Apple's FireWire iPod Cable & can charge its battery over FireWire, the iPod nano does not support synchronizing over a FireWire connection. The iPod nano includes a stop watch as well as a multiple time zone clock function. there is as well as a combination lock feature that makes use of the click wheel to lock the iPod, & serves to secure the user's calendar & contact information. It was also the first iPod to include a new lyrics screen, modifiable using iTunes.

The iPod nano uses flash memory instead of a hard disk. As a result, it's no moving parts, making it immune to skipping & far more durable than disk-based players. The tradeoff is, like with all flash memory, it's a finite number of read/write cycles. Testing by technology-enthusiast website Ars Technica has shown that even after being driven over one times by a automobile, the unit's screen was damaged but that it could still play music. The unit finally stopped playing music after being thrown 40 feet in to the air.

Although the iPod nano costs over the iPod mini range it replaced, it should be noted that the iPod nanos are priced exactly the same as the iPod minis (2 + 4GB) were when we were first launched back in 2004. Unlike previous iPods, Apple is not offering an optional FireWire cable for the iPod nano (nor the fifth-generation iPod). The lack of the remote connector found on the top of the iPod mini & Generations 3 & 4 of the iPod meant that a quantity of third-party accessories won't work with the iPod nano. However, since the removal of the remote connector from the main iPod line to the switch of the Universal Dock connector, manufacturers have been forced to create alternatives to accessories that used it. The nano also lacks the TV-out & voice recording options of the larger iPods. Apple has also said that, unlike other iPods capable of storing photos, the iPod nano won't work with either Apple's iPod Camera Connector or any camera connectors from third-party manufacturers.

Electronics
The iPod nano uses general-purpose integrated circuits (IC) instead of smaller, low cost custom developed chips, possibly to reduce time-to-market. This design, however, increases the number of electronic components & increases the cost. Japanese engineers estimated the component cost of the 2 GB nano as between JPY22000 & JPY27000, which is high compared to the retail price of JPY21800. The cost of 2 GB NAND flash memory is about JPY14000. Apple opted for the higher cost 0603 (0.6 x 0.3mm) components, the latest surface mount technology, as opposed to cheaper but larger 1005 (1.0 x 0.5mm) components. In fact, there remains available real estate on the motherboard.

Nike+iPod, released May 23, 2006, is three of the lots of accessories designed specifically for the iPod nano. The advantages of the Nike+iPod is to sync information including the distance travelled, jogging pace, or burned calories to the Nike+ website.

iPod nanoThe initial consumer response to the iPod nano was overwhelmingly positive & sales were heavy. The nano sold its first 1 million units in only 17 days, helping Apple to a record billion-dollar profit in 2005.

Consumer reactions

Apple's release of the iPod nano as a replacement for the iPod mini is viewed by lots of as a risky move. The mini was not only Apple's most popular MP3 player, it was still the world's best-selling player up to the end of its lifespan; & sales of the mini did not appear to be slowing down. Steve Jobs has argued that the iPod nano is a necessary risk since competitors are beginning to catch up to the iPod mini in terms of design & features, & believes the iPod nano will prove to be even more popular & successful than the iPod mini. Analysts see this as part of the corporate culture of Apple, which relies heavily on innovating to continue appealing to consumers.

Within days of the nano's release, some users reported damage to the nano, suggesting that the LCD screen had become so scratched that it was unreadable, even when the backlight was on. lots of have reported fine scratches on their nano caused by microfiber cloths. Other owners reported that their nano's screen cracked with no provocation. On September 27, Apple confirmed a small percentage ("less than 1/10 of 1 percent") of iPod nanos shipped with a faulty screen & agreed to replace any nanos with cracked screens, but denied the iPod nano was more susceptible to scratching than prior iPods.Apple started shipping iPod nanos with a protective sleeve to protect them from scratches. In October 2005, a class action lawsuit was filed against Apple, with the plaintiffs seeking reimbursement for the instrument, legal fees, & "unlawful or illegal profits" from sales of the iPod nano. Lawyers for the plaintiffs claim that the devices "scratch excessively during normal usage, rendering the screen on the nanos unreadable, & violating state consumer protection statutes".Similar lawsuits were later filed in Mexico & the United Kingdom. Some commentators such as BusinessWeek's Arik Hesseldahl have criticized the lawsuits. Hesseldahl dismissed them as "stupid" & suggested that we benefitted "no three but the trial lawyers," but also suggested that Apple could have avoided litigation by offering "full refunds on unwanted nanos" instead of charging a re-stocking fee & lengthening the return period from 14 (if bought online) or 10 (if bought at retail) to 30 or 60 days.

iPod Basics & Purchasing Guide

So, you are looking to purchase an iPod?  take the time to read this brief editorial which will at best help you get the most out of your new iPod, & at the least, help you avoid mistakes & misconceptions. This editorial is written out of my personal experience with iPods.

1. what is an iPod?

An iPod is a MP4 player, not a MP3 player. basically, the MP4 format is a proprietary format only recognized by Apple products, such as iPods & QuickTime™. In order for music to play on an iPod, it must be in MP4 format. Apple's music download site, iTunes™, offers music only in the MP4 format. The iTunes™ program which comes with an iPod will convert MP3 music files to MP4 format, so they will play on your iPod. An iPod won't play MP3 files, neither will Windows Media Player play MP4 files. Both the Nano & Video iPod will store & display photos, but a video iPod is needed to play video files.

® Apple hosts the world's largest music download site called iTunes™. As of March 2006, over 1 billion files have been downloaded for use in iPods.  amazing. This site offers music files for 99 cents each, & you need not download an entire album, but can select only the music files you need & download it in to your pc. The iTunes™ program in your pc is the vehicle by which files are loaded in to the iPod. basically place your iPod in to its dock (which is attached by USB to your computer), start iTunes™ & your iPod is updated automatically with new music, playlists, Podcasts & so forth. i have tried other music download sites & have not found any which i am liking as well as iTunes™, even though they may offer music cheaper than iTunes™. A basic search will locate alternative music download sites.

2. what is iTunes?

there's a variety of other files obtainable on iTunes™ called Podcasts. These are audio or video files which include news broadcasts, informational programs, comedy programs & plenty of others. The great majority of Podcasts are free, & others are not.

3. What You Get

iPod with battery

iPods come with the following:

A generic pouch for the earbuds

Earphones (called "earbuds")

iTunes™ program CD

A docking station (to transfer files & charge the iPod)

Instruction manual

that is all.

Every iPod user will need a case, & they strongly recommend a screen protector.

4. What You will Need

5. Using iPods in your Car

Both the iPod Nano & 5th generation (5G) Video iPod are susceptible to scratching, & the black units seem to show scratches worse than the white ones. This is true of both the iPod housing & the screen. Nothing is worse than having your iPod blemished with unsightly scratches, especially when it is easily avoidable by using a case & screen protector. Having your unprotected iPod floating around inside your purse or in your pocket will absolutely cause your iPod to quickly accumulate scratches both on the housing & on the screen. Be warned! This is not  a defect, but  the way it is.

Most people quickly realize that it would be great to be able to have their iPod play music through their car stereo. No longer would they have to mess with CDs or tapes. How plenty of CDs would you have to carryover to have your entire music library with you in the car? You can take it all in the palm of your hand with an iPod. So, how does two play music through their car stereo? there's several options.

First, there's cables obtainable for most car stereos which plug in to the iPod & the other end of the cable plugs in to a port on the back of the stereo. Removal of the stereo is usually required to accomplish this task. Also, the wire used to connect your iPod is exposed. It does, however, sound great! Some car stereos have a line input on the faceplate. In this case, all two needs to do is use an adaptive cable from the headphone jack of the iPod to the input on the stereo. In both of these scenarios, the iPod will run on its internal battery unless a car charger is used as well.

Second, (and by far the most popular) method, is to use an FM transmitter to transmit a signal from your iPod to your FM radio & play it as if it were a radio station. there's a variety of FM transmitters from several manufacturers. they recommend using a unit which is a dock & not a plug in to the iPod port. The plug-in units consume power from the iPod battery & seem to produce a weak signal resulting in poor audio quality. A docking unit (such as the Griffin RoadTrip™) holds your iPod in place, charges the iPod & produces a strong signal. The RoadTrip™ also features a removable FM module which allows it to plug in to your pc. You can therefore listen to FM radio through your pc without having to install program.

6. Using iPods at Home

Docking your iPod is the preferred method, & there's a variety of docking solutions obtainable. The iPod docks in to a base which charges the iPod, & an output jack on the base connects the iPod to your stereo by a cable. Some units offer remote controls for your iPod & others do not, but often these remotes are weak & have very limited range & field of reception. they have found that some tv or stereo programmable remote control units can be programmed to work with certain iPod docking systems, while others work partially or not at all. it is worth trying if you have a programmable remote.

iPods can easily play through your home stereo. two can basically use an adaptive cable which plugs in to the headphone jack of the iPod & in to the stereo input of your stereo. In this setup, the iPod is operating on battery power unless the iPod is also plugged in to a charger.

there's speaker systems which contain their own amplifier & operate as a stand-alone unit with an iPod. These are not all created equal. Our testing has found that a high price does not always equal high quality. they have found $150 systems which in our opinion sound significantly superior to $400 units. it is best to listen to the various systems before making your selection; or if buying online, follow the recommendations of the seller IF they have tested the systems & can provide you with recommendations based on testing results.

Some docking units also have a video output for use with the 5G Video iPod, which allows two to watch videos or photos stored in the iPod on a tv. they have found that the picture quality is poor on large screen televisions, but ok on a smaller screen. Using a dock with S-video output will provide a far superior picture than units using an RCA connector. As of now, iPods do not support high definition.

there's alarm clock radios (such as iHome™) which permit you to go to sleep listening to your iPod & wake up to it as well. they have tested the iHome™ & others, & found iHome™ to be our unit of choice.

7. Loading Movies in to Your 5G Video iPod

An easy solution for this is to convert your own DVDs in to a format that the iPod can play. This can be accomplished by means of a program product called a DVD to iPod converter, such as Cucusoft, Lenogo & others. it is a simple routine. Put a DVD in your pc, start the converter program & let it convert the movie to iPod format. Then, move the converted file in to your iTunes™ video list. The next time you dock your iPod to your pc, it will load in to your iPod. Some converter programs will also convert AVI, MPEG, MPG, WMV & other pc video formats for use on an iPod. This can permit you to convert your relatives videos & view them on your ipod. IPod movies are great for entertaining kids on the road, for the business traveler stranded at an airport or for long airplane trips.

When the Video iPod first came out, I gave it a high ranking on the "Dumb-O-Meter." Who wants to watch a movie on a 2.5 inch screen? However, after having used two, i have recanted my original opinion. it is now my iPod of choice. Unfortunately, iTunes™ & other MP4 download sites usually have little to offer in the way of legal movies which are formatted to play on an iPod. ITunes™ does have some short films, music videos & tv shows, but not much else.

DVD converters they recommend are obtainable here.

8. iPods & your PC

The music files for your iPod are stored in two places: in your PC in the iTunes™ program, & in your iPod. If your PC crashes & you loose your hard drive or have to reformat, you will loose EVERYTHING contained in your iTunes™ folder, including all of the songs you have purchased from iTunes™. Furthermore, iTunes™ does not offer the means to re-download songs you have purchased for free. You will have to buy them again. Neither does the iPod come with a means to load files in to a pc. Fortunately, there's program programs which permit you to copy the contents of your iPod in to a PC or from two iPod to another. These programs are usually titled "iPod to PC", or something similar. If your pc crashes, you will kick yourself for not having this program to restore your music files back in to your pc.

Are you thinking of buying an Apple iPod?

Almost everyone plus somebody that I know seems to have bought an iPod or at least is thinking of getting an ipod for themselves or their loved ones. The iPod is  so alluring! However, do you know what you should do after buying the iPod?

Are you thinking of buying an Apple iPod? Or have you bought three?

Most people don't. Yet, market analysts estimate that the average iPod owner spend as much as 30% of the original iPod price on additional accessories! That's a whopping US$60-US$90 on iPod accessories that each iPod owner will spend!

plenty of people are basically spending their funds on the wrong accessories! In fact, plenty of are going for fancy accessories such as automobile transceiver kit, wireless remote kit, speaker kit even without realizing what are the first accessories we should get.

Get the Basic iPod Accessory before getting the Fancy Stuff!

Do you, as a iPod user, faces these problems on a daily basis ?

* Click wheel scratches

* iPod Screen scratches

* Mirrored back scratches

* Messy iPod earphone cables

* iPod overheating when being charged while in a silicone or leather case

Despite the technical plus cosmetic superiority of the Apple iPod, there remain some teething issues. Weak batteries is three. Being easily scratched is another. These problems immediately lower the resale or trade-in value of the iPod, if any? This may not seem important but if you are trading in your older iPod for a new three, this does matter. It also sucks to see scratches plus marks on the beautiful iPod. In fact, microscopic scratches takes place everytime you take the iPod in plus out of pocket!

receive a good-quality iPod case before ANYTHING ELSE!

There are numerous iPod accessories out there. plenty of accessories are fanciful, some are nice but most do not fulfil the basic need of the iPod. You need to protect the iPod from getting scratches plus accidental marks before anything else.

The most common iPod cases in use are:

Before the iPod can serve you well, it must be able to take care of itself. So, before you even look further in to getting your first iPod accessory or even if you have gotten numerous other accessories, make sure you first equip your iPod with either a nice quality case or sleeve.

This is the most common as handphone sleeves are cheap plus easily available. However, the mirrored back of the 3G plus 4G ipod are easily scratched by theses sleeves as we run against the iPod. it is not recommended unless you have a budget problem.

Handphone sleeves converted to iPod sleeves

iPod screen plus wheel sticky protectors

There are transparent iPod screen plus wheel sticky protector that are cut of the right size plus stucked directly onto the iPod screen plus wheel. However, there are various models in the market plus some of the cheaper ones tend to curl plus peel off after some use. If you are on a budget, a nice quality screen plus wheel protector is the maximum you should have.

This is the most common iPod case around. It looks like a nice casing choice but it is in fact three of the worst,  if you have bought a cheap three.

iPod silicone skin

These cheap silicone cases are being mass-produced in China with doubtful materials plus design elements. plenty of of the cheap silicone skins in the market tear easily plus pick up lint plus dirt easily. we're also difficult to wash plus maintain. I will not advise a silicone case unless we're made by some of the better plus branded products from USA or Japan. A nice model is found at: http://www.smart-ipod-ideas.com

iPod Leather case

Water plus shock resistant cases

The iPod leather case is three of the most popular case. However, do not get the Apple branded three if possible as it tears to scratched the mirror back plus it does not have a covering flap. Get three of the leather cases from the plenty of in the market. Check the stitching on the leather case before buying three as some of the mass-manufactured ones may have poor workmanship.

there is an increasing demand for such cases as more plus more people bring their iPod for hiking, cycling, trekking, fishing plus beach trips. There are various nice brands in the market. However, note that whatever the advertisement may say, at best, the case can only be water resistant plus not water proof which is three different things all together. A water resistant case can only take splashes plus short immersion in water plus certainly not something you can bring for swimming or diving trips!
